The project "Attitudes to hate crimes in Ukraine" arose in response to the growing wave of violence and intolerance. One of the key reasons for the impunity of criminals traditionally in Ukraine is the poor awareness of law enforcement officers regarding the specifics of hate crimes. Therefore, the goal was to investigate how often in their activities law enforcement officers come across the phenomenon of such crimes and investigate them as being committed out of intolerance. In addition, it was analyzed whether law enforcement officers use any database of hate symbols, which, according to the recommendations of the OSCE ODIHR, should facilitate the process of identifying criminals and investigating crimes. The research was carried out by research of practice of all State Police Departments of Ukraine.
